ASWP’s Schoolground Habitat Merit Awards come with $1000 in education support

Earn valuable educational services for your outdoor classroom and gain some well-deserved recognition all at the same time! Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania’s Schoolground Habitat Merit Awards honors K-12 schools that have enhanced or restored their schoolgrounds to areas rich in flora and fauna, while providing direct curricular connections.

Schools must demonstrate significant achievement in school ground enhancement.  Significant achievements are those that (1) directly involve students and (2) include: specific transformations made to the schoolground; unique community support; creative tie-ins to the curriculum; creative maintenance techniques; and/or innovative uses of the outdoor classroom. One winner will be selected for the 2008 cycle.

Award winners will receive: free admission for 3 teachers to attend ASWP’s Schoolground Habitat Enhancement and Restoration Symposium on May 22, 2008; $1000 worth of educational services (project consultation, teacher training and/or student programming) provided by ASWP during the 2008-09 school year; and a spotlight article in ASWP’s Seasonings, the free teacher newsletter that is distributed to over 3,300 teachers throughout Western Pennsylvania!
